The Anderson Collection at Stanford University is a modern arts museum that is with in the Stanford campus. To be honest, I was not really excited before entering the building. I thought that this museum is going to be boring, I rarely go to a museum with only art pieces in, I personally like historic museums more.
Inside the building, everything is nice and neat, really clean with good natural sunlight. The art pieces that they exhibit are far more interesting than I thought they would be. many of the paintings or sculptures just seems to grab my attention and I would just stare at them for a while. I think that the paintings of simple objects are my favorite kind of art in this museum.
ONE THING that they can improve on is that I think they should give us a donuts and coffee when we leave the museum.
This painting of people walking on a street uses an ordinarily, everyday situation and made it into a painting. The cool part about this piece is that the painter did not bother to paint the faces, you cannot see any of the faces, only half a face if you count the guy with the hat. Another ithing about this piece is that the use of shadow really makes the people stand out and also gives the picture a slight sense of gloominess to it. I personally like how some of the color stands out in that big patch of black on the top right side of the painting.
I would not say that half a dam is an everyday object, so the painting shows something you would NOT see everyday. obviously, the dam stands out in the painting because it is the only man-made object in the peice, but also that fish on the shore, these two objects really hooks your eyes when you are looking at this piece. I like this painting because of the dam at first sight, but when I notice the fish, just right there one those rocks, I just had to inculde this in my field trip notes.
These two paintings showed a great use of black to show contrast with light. The objects in the painting is nothing special, nothing out of the ordanary is happening nor is there a strange style of paiting. These two peices simply express though simple obects and color use. Although I like the first one more, the second one is also worth mentioning, because of thier similarities and it is a good piece of art. What I see in these two painting is serenity and peace, I think this is beacuse I like nighttime more than daytime, and that I am really comfortable in the dark. The first painting in particular gives me a warm and safe feeling.I have no idea why.
